,Icelandic artist Ólafur Elíasson has designed a beautiful handheld solar phone charger and light. The Little Sun Charge allows people to charge their phone or mini camera wherever life takes them.

Elíasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen founded the Little Sun project in 2012, thus setting up a social business focused on getting clean, reliable, affordable light to the 1.1 billion people worldwide without access to electricity.

The project, Little Sun   aims to provide light to as many people in the world as possible and to strengthen off-grid communites from the inside out, training local entrepreneurs to becoma Little Sun agents and powering their small buisnesses with an initial seed capital of Little Sun lamps which allows them to get started.

So far, the Little Sun lamp has brought light to hundreds of thousands of people, including over 670,000 people living without access to the electrical grid.

The Little Sun Charge, now just launched on Kickstarter is a charger for people on the go, or according to the Kickstarter site," Also for those of us living off-grid with no reliable way to charge our phones." Elíasson says that the charger is perfect for travellers, freelancers, hikers, campers and cyclists or anyone who loves the outdoors.  The product also doubles as a nightlight.
