"I'm gender queer"
Alda Jónsdóttir, or Alda Villiljós, is fighting for the rights of gender queer or non-binary people in Iceland, which means people who don't want to be categorised as man or woman but as gender neutral.
Alda was registered female at birth but does not identify with being female, but gender neutral. Alda says that many people experience not identifying with their biological gender and would like Icelanders to use the pronoun "Hán" instead of "Hún" (She) or "Hann"(he).
Alda tried to identify with being a male for a while, going by the name Patrekur Leó. "I tried to see if that would fit me better. It didn't."
An extensive interview with Alda Villiljós in Icelandic is found in the weekend edition of Morgunblaðið.
