Directors of rock festival Eistnaflug which takes place in Neskaupsstaður, east Iceland this weekend announced last night that no children would be allowed at the concerts. This was a decision made by the East Iceland Chief of Police.
"I'm not entirely surprised," said festival director Stefán Magnússon to mbl.is. "Children have never been allowed at Eistnaflug, the age limit is eighteen. But the regulations seem to rather unclear." Magnússon sayst that he took one of his children to the ATP festival last weekend and all his friends had taken their kids to Secret Solstice a fortnight ago. "There are kids at Bræðslan, at Aldrei fór ég suður, at the Justin Timberlake concert and children are welcome at the Westman Islands festival where there are over twenty thousand people. Alcohol was sold at all of these events. " Gunnarsson believes the regulations have to be clearer. "We knew people were coming to Eistnaflug with their families so we asked. This was the answer. But it's ok, we're pretty cool about it. "
Eistnaflug is a festival that focuses on rock and heavy metal and has a reputation as one of te most peaceful music festivals in the country. The festival began last night and comes to a close on Saturday night. "It's been amazing,"adds Gunnarsson. "This small town is crowded with people."
