Steinunn Birna Ragnarsdóttir, former music director of Harpa has been appointed as the new director of the Icelandic Opera.

A new director for the Icelandic Opera has been appointed. Steinunn Birna Ragnarsdóttir, former music director of Harpa has replaced Stefán Baldursson who resigned after six years as opera director. The Icelandic opera is now located in Harpa, which means that Ragnarsdóttir's office will simply change to a different floor.

Ragnarsdóttir, who has been the music director of Harpa since it opened in 2011 and is an accomplished pianist,  recently took part in a conference called International Society of Performing Arts in Sweden.

"The Icelandic opera has blossomed in recent years and enjoyed success in Harpa under the direction of Stefán Baldursson. I think that great opportunities lie ahead for the opera and I'm very honoured to be directing it."

This autumn's opera production will be annonced soon. No announcement has been made for a new music director at Harpa.
