Why Björk's latest music video had to be filmed in Iceland
"The album is incredibly direct, so to film her anywhere else, with any other trappings felt too artificial. We had to do it in Iceland, in nature, with her barefoot." Screenshot from Black Lake / i-d magazine
I-D magazine has just published an interesting interview with Andrew Huang, the director of the music video Black Lake, premiered at the much-hyped Björk exhibition at the MoMA. The exhibition has not received good reviews and in this interview Huang explains how Björk, after a devastating divorce, had to return to her home soil for this video.
The Black Lake features Björk walking barefoot in Icelandic hills and caves and is ,"A song that sees Bjork baring her soul over the break-up of her relationship with artist Matthew Barney. It's filmed in Icelandic caves owned by Bjork's brother and on lush green hills, but rubbing up against the natural elements are computer-generated effects of blue lava flows and human elevation."
