The TV series "Vesturfarar", documenting visits to the descendants of Icelanders who emigrated to the New World, won the Icelandic Edda award last night when the Film & Televison Academy held its festival to celebrate the industry's yearly harvest. The show was nominated in the category "Culture show of the year" along with four other shows.

The show, also known as "Westward Bound", follows the Icelandic TV personality Egill Helgason where he travels around Canada and the northern USA, visiting people in Winnipeg, North-Dakota, Alberta, the west coast and more places. These people are the direct descendants of the thousands of Icelanders who emigrated to the New World during the period of time spanning from 1870 to 1914.
