The Winter Lights Festival in Reykjavík will formally open tonight with a light installation by Marcos Zlotes at Reykjavík's best known landmarks, Hallgrímskirkja church. This visual experience, called Ljósvarða,  will be accompanied by the music of Þóranna Dögg Björnsdóttir, aka Trouble, who will perform an electro-acoustic composition.

Marcos Zlotes' aim is to motivate Reykjavík´s residents and guests to experience the manmade surroundings in an unusual way and to use the city as a platform for his art.

Young artists from nearby playschool Grænuborg will participate in the art installation with their drawings projected onto the church, and students at the dance department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts will perform.

The event starts at 19.30 tonight, Thursday.
