This year’s Reykjavík Marathon, taking place next Saturday, is set to break records for participation.
According to an announcement, more than 15,000 people have already registered, compared to 12,500 last year.
The half marathon is fully booked with over 4,000 runners, and only a few spots remain in the full marathon. The 10 km race is also expected to sell out.
Nearly 180 million ISK raised
Participants are coming from all over the world, with registered runners representing 97 countries. The largest groups of foreign competitors are from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Poland.
Alongside the races, an extensive fundraising campaign is underway, with runners supporting numerous charities. By the end of yesterday, a total of about 179.6 million ISK had been raised — significantly more than the 157 million ISK collected by the same time last year.
