A serious incident occurred at the Reykjavik Edition Hotel in downtown Reykjavík early this morning, resulting in the deaths of two foreign tourists and injuries to a third.

The Capital Area Police received a call about the incident at 7:14 a.m., and emergency services were dispatched to the scene. According to police, the case is still in its early investigative stages, and many details remain unclear.

A third individual, also a foreign tourist, was found at the scene with injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Authorities have not provided information on the nature or severity of the injuries.

Sources confirmed to mbl.is that four ambulances and a fire truck responded to the scene. A floor of the hotel was sealed off by the Special Forces Unit of the National Police Commissioner, and guests were instructed to remain in their rooms during the operation.

Helena Rós Sturludóttir, spokesperson for the National Commissioner of Police, confirmed that the special unit was called in to assist local police and that a considerable response effort took place.

The Reykjavik Fire Department has since left the scene. At this time, no further details—including the cause of death or whether foul play is suspected—have been disclosed.
