Divers and helicopter dispatched for swimmer in distress
Divers from the National Police Commissioner’s special unit were recently dispatched following a request from police in the capital area.
Helena Rós Sturludóttir, information officer for the National Police Commissioner, confirmed the operation in an interview with mbl.is.
According to Ásgeir Þór Erlendsson, spokesperson for the Icelandic Coast Guard, the Coast Guard’s helicopter was also deployed after reports of a swimmer in distress near Fiskislóð.
Additionally, sea rescue teams from Landsbjörg have been called to the scene.
Emergency response activity is high in the city center due to the ongoing situation.
