Earthquakes in Bárðarbunga
Two earthquakes, one of magnitude 2.4 and the other 1.8, occurred in the Bárðarbunga caldera at 11:00 this morning.
Ingibjörg Andrea Bergþórsdóttir, a natural hazard specialist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, says that nothing unusual is happening in Bárðarbunga. It trembles from time to time and can do so very vigorously.
She says that eight earthquakes were recorded in Bárðarbunga yesterday, while an earthquake of magnitude 3.8 was recorded in Bárðarbunga on December 29.
Four earthquakes of magnitude 5 or greater struck Bárðarbunga last year, and the Met Office's meters show inflation around the caldera, indicating pressure below the surface.
