“We will just talk to various parties”
Kristrún Frostadóttir, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, was reluctant to reveal which leaders of other parties she had been talking to when she spoke briefly to the media after she met with Halla Tómasdóttir, the President of Iceland, in Bessastaðir.
“We will just talk to various parties. I think it is best not to go any further with it now,” she said after being asked which leaders she had spoken to.
Frostadóttir reiterated what she and her party members have said since the election results were announced, saying everyone must see that the nation is calling for clear changes.
“We are at a point where the president is going to talk to all the leaders and take the position in the group. She fully understands the situation, just like I do, that there is a clear call for these changes. But we must also allow these conversations to take place,” Frostadóttir said of her conversation with Halla.
Need a unified government
"We discussed several things in that context. I think the most important thing now is that a united government is formed here that can move forward with certain actions, so that will be the key point and I trust the president completely to assess that."
She added that it could well be that some chairmen are talking to each other informally. "I think it's very normal at this point, but I'm just going to let the process naturally take place," she said, referring to the fact that Tómasdóttir is scheduled to speak today with all the chairs of the parties that made it to parliament.
