The eruption north of Mt Stóra-Skógfell is over. This is stated in an announcement from the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

"The eruption lasted for about 14 days and is the third longest eruption of the six that have occurred in the Sundhnúkagígar crater row since December 2023. The eruption that began in mid-March lasted for about 54 days, and the eruption that began at the end of May lasted for about 24 days," says the announcement.

There has been no visible activity in the crater for about half a day, but the last signs of eruption unrest were seen yesterday afternoon.

It is stated in the announcement that inflation has restarted in Svartsengi and that a new risk assessment will be updated later today.
