An earthquake of magnitude 2.2 was measured in the magma tunnel north of Mt Stóra-Skógfell at 2 am. It is the largest earthquake in the region since Thursday.

This is what Bryndís Ýr Gísladóttir, a natural disaster expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, says in an interview with mbl.is.

On Thursday evening, an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 was measured and its source was 3 km northeast of Mt Stóra-Skógfell.

Gísladóttir says there is still constant activity in the eruption that started on Thursday evening. She says little has changed since yesterday.

Seismic activity in the area has been low since the eruption began, occasional earthquakes have been recorded north of Mt Stóra-Skógfell and at Mt Fagradalsfjall.
