The lava is heading north of Mt Sýlingarfell
Jón Haukur Steingrímsson, geoengineer at Efla Engineering, says that the lava from the new eruption is heading north of Mt Sýlingarfell.

"We haven't reached the crater that was active last time," he says.
The eruption started further north than the crater formed in the last eruption. "The lava that was going off is heading there, but we don't know if it could flow to the north and to the east," he adds.
Steingrímsson says that at least a lava tongue has formed, which is on its way north of Mt Sýlingarfell.
