The real estate company Þórkatla intends to offer former owners of housing in Grindavík both lease agreements and so-called loyalty agreements, but their prerequisite is that it is considered safe to stay in Grindavík.

This is stated in an announcement from Þórkatla, which states that the loyalty agreement will be based on Þórkatla's cooperation with the sellers of the properties regarding care, minor maintenance, and general monitoring of the properties. A decision on the implementation of these agreements will be made as soon as circumstances permit.

Have completed the purchase of 852 properties

The announcement also states that Þórkatla has completed the purchase of 852 properties in Grindavík, or 93% of those who have applied. Deliveries have been successful and the company has already taken over 650 properties. Work is being done on the final settlement with the sellers and the finalization of the waiver. The company has received a total of 917 applications, as well as 18 applications from holders of right of residence.

The company's total investment to date is over ISK 65 billion. There, the purchase agreement and waiver payments are almost ISK 45 billion and the mortgages taken over are over ISK 20 billion.

"It is gratifying that we have already managed to help more than 850 families in Grindavík in these difficult situations. There is certainly a certain waiting period going forward, but we hope that the forces of nature will eventually be on our side so that we can think about the future and development of Grindavík soon," says Ernir Viðar Skúlason, Þórkatla's manager, in the announcement.
