Two tourists missing: Searching all caves but no one has been found
The search for the two tourists, who announced last night that they had been trapped in a cave, has not been successful. Search is still being conducted in Mt Kerlingarfjöll area. All caves in the region are being searched. 150 people have participated in the operation.
The announcement was made at about 22.30 last night and all rescue teams in South Iceland were called out along with specialized groups from the capital area. Mbl.is reported first.
According to a report from Landsbjörg, received this morning, visibility was bad, with low clouds and rain, but the area is brightening up.
150 people have participated in the operation.
“Rescue teams have been searching closely for and around the location that followed yesterday’s calls. Nothing has been found there yet. It’s assumed that the people are in a cave, and all the known caves in the area are being searched.
Around 135 people are being searched, but 150 have been involved since the operation began yesterday. A helicopter from the Icelandic Coast Guard had to leave the area last night due to visibility, but will participate in the search again today,” the announcement states.
