There is an increased chance of a magma run and even a volcanic eruption in the coming days. The number of earthquakes in the Sundhnúkagígar crater row is slowly increasing, and experts at the Icelandic Meteorological Office believe that enough pressure has built up in the system to trigger a new event.

In an announcement from the Icelandic Met Office, GPS measurements show that inflation has slowed down slightly in the last few days. That, along with the increased seismic activity measured yesterday, indicates that a new magma run or even an eruption is approaching.

Increased micro-seismic activity was measured in the Sundhnúkagígar crater row yesterday and lasted for about 50 minutes.

Data increasingly points to a pending magma run or an eruption

GPS measurements show that inflation has slowed down a bit in the last few days. When that development coincides with seismic activity similar to that measured in the Sundhnúkagígar crater row yesterday, there are indications that something is about to happen. Therefore, there is an increased chance that it will make news in the next 7-10 days.

The risk assessment is unchanged from last week.
