The glacier outburst flood in Skálm east of Mýrdalsjökull is probably over. The water level has dropped below what it was before the run. Several earthquakes have been recorded on the western side of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. It is possible that another glacier run will start there. The  Icelandic Met Office is monitoring the situation.

"There is a bit of unrest right now on the west side of Mýrdalsjökull. Something could happen on that side," says Böðvar Sveinsson, a natural disaster expert at the Icelandic Met Office, in an interview with mbl.is.

Sveinsson and other experts from the the Icelandic Met Office will meet today and review the situation.

It is also considered possible that two glacial outburst floods were in progress yesterday, in Skálm and in the western part of Mýrdalsjökull glacier.

"It is very likely that there was a small flood on that side as well." There were actually two floods going on yesterday," he says.

The road is still closed

The ring road between Vík and Kirkjubæjarklaustur is still closed due to damages to the road because of the glacial outburst flood.  It has not been announced yet when the road will open again.
