Fire broke out in Kringlan mall yesterday
Fire broke out on the roof of Kringlan Mall yesterday just after 4 pm. The source of the fire has not been established, but industrial workers were working on the roof melting roof tar paper.
Fire Chief, Jón Viðar Matthíasson, says it cannot be excluded that the fire might be related to that work. Thankfully, no one was injured during the fire but the damages will be extensive.
The fire department was working into the evening putting the fire out and the area was closed to traffic. The work went well and the fire was extinguished just after midnight, around 1 am. Around 50-60 people participated in the work yesterday.
Damages due to smoke and water and Kringlan mall is closed today because a lot of work still has to be done.
