The power of the eruption is decreasing

The volcanic force at Sundhnúkagígar crater row apparently decreased significantly at two o’clock last night.
The South Iceland Volcano and Natural Hazard Group is raising the issue on Facebook.
The group’s statement says that this is especially true for the northern crater, which erupted violently yesterday. There are still some lava splatter visible from that crater, but much smaller than yesterday. It seems therefore that it is only a matter of time before that crater stops erupting.
“Concurrently, the volcanic eruption was quite abrupt, but then continued to be stable until after nightfall. The southern and larger crater are still active, although it did not erupt as powerfully as yesterday. That crater is next to the crater that erupted the longest in the last eruption,” the report added.
The eruption began on Wednesday last week and is the fifth since the eruption began in the Sundhnúkagígar crater row in December last year. It is also the eighth eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula in three years.
