Civil Protection level lowered
The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, in agreement with the Commissioner of the Police in Suðurnes, has decided to lower the emergency level to the Civil Protection Crisis level due to the volcanic eruption between Hagafell and Stóra Skógfell.
This is stated in the notice from the Civil Protection, which also states:
“The volcano eruption began on March 16 and the level was raised to an emergency level. Even though the volcano is continuing, the situation has not changed for some time now. No inflation has been detected in the area in the last few days.
Various challenges, such as wildfires around the lava field, and gas pollution have been ongoing in the last few days, but pollution has reached the region of Suðurnes. Wildfires along the volcanic eruption will continue to be monitored and reacted to when necessary, and preventive measures have also been taken. The public can both follow the gas pollution forecast on the website of the Icelandic Met Office and the air quality on the website loftgaedi.is.”
