Video: Lava flowing at a scary speed
The speed of the lava flow has been quite surprising, with flows ranging from 800 to 1,000 metres per hour.
It seems very fast, but this speed is due to the fact that the lava has been spreading little, but rather goes in one direction.
In the following video shot shortly before noon, the lava flows in a stream to the west of the crater and joins the lava flow that crossed Grindavík road and later the Njarðvík pipe.
Hörður Kristleifsson shot the video for mbl.is.
