Reykjanesbraut is closed in both directions. This is stated in an announcement from the police in Suðurnes.
Very poor visibility is on Reykjanesbraut and poor driving conditions according to information from the police.
“People in the area are asked to be careful. There are snow-covered roads with slippery spots on most routes,” the police report states.
A driver who had driven Reykjanesbraut through Hafnarfjörður and Kópavogur who spoke to mbl.is said that the traffic situation was “simply crazy”. You can’t see between cars, traffic is about 10 kilometres fast and cars are stuck here and there.
Gudbrandur Sigurðsson, deputy director of the traffic department, tells us that the main thrust of traffic was already at work when visibility began to deteriorate by nine o’clock this morning.
He says that upto that time traffic was going well. He says that no traffic related incidents have been reported to the police yet.
Update 11 am
Reykjanesbraut has been opened again.
