The patrol ship Þór is now at Grindavík harbour. The ship's crew has assisted the Civil Protection in getting a clearer picture of the eruption with drone images.

The ship was at Keflavík this morning but about five o’clock this morning it was decided to sail to Grindavík. About eight o’clock the ship was at Grindavík.

This is what Ásgeir Erlendsson, information officer of the Icelandic Coast Guard, says to mbl.is.

Helicopter team on standby

“We have already had the helicopter team on standby, as well as the patrol ship Þór, which was at Keflavík this morning and we sent it in to Grindavík to be available,” Erlendsson says.

“There is also a drone on board which is used, along with other drones, to assist the civil defence coordination centre to give a clear picture of the situation. The crew is in that role, as well as being available if necessary.”
