No eruptive activity is visible at the fissures north of Grindavík and the activity in the vents seem to have gone out. This is confirmed by scientists from the Icelandic Met Office who flew over the eruption site at ten o’clock today. Then there is an employee of Efla present at Sýlingafell monitoring the site.

The Icelandic Met Office reports this in an announcement on Facebook.

It also says that the presence of glow is still visible in lava fields.

“The activity seems to have fallen down late last night or very early this morning. However, it is still possible that lava flow is in closed channels and it is therefore premature to declare a volcanic eruption-closing,” the report states.

Scientists meet with the Civil Protection

The volcanic eruption began strongly on Monday evening on the Sundhnúkar crater row east of Sýlingarfell on the Reykjanes peninsula.

The volcanic force of the eruption has decreased greatly, but yesterday two volcanic eruptions erupted southeast of Stóra-Skógafell, but mainly in the crater east of Sýlingarfell, as stated on the website of the Icelandic Met Office.

The new hazard assessment map from the Icelandic Met Office took effect at 7 am this morning. Residents and employees of companies will be allowed to stay and work in Grindavík from 7 am to 16 am daily.

The scientists at the Met Office met with Civil Protection at 9.30 this morning.
