Fatal collision yesterday on Vesturlandavegur road
A helicopter from the Icelandic Coast Guard was called out because of a traffic accident which occurred on the West-West Iceland road, north of the Akrafjall mountain, at four o’clock yesterday.
Ásgeir Erlendsson, the information officer of the Icelandic Coast Guard, says the helicopter went to the call about 20 minutes over three. He said three people were injured but that it was not clear how many people would have to be taken to the ER.
Vesturlandsvegur road was closed to traffic because of the accident yesterday.
According to the fire department in Borgarbyggð, there was a very serious collision. Three people were in two cars and two were taken by helicopter by the Icelandic Coast Guard to the Landspítali hospital in Fossvogur. One person was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Akranes.
The road was closed and the police started investigating the circumstances of the accident. Delays were on this route yesterday because of the accident.

Vesturlandsvegur road, north of Akrafjall was opened again at half past seven last night, after the police investigation was completed according to the Road Administration.
Driver of the second vehicle died
The driver of one of the cars that was involved in the accident yesterday has died.
This is what the West-Iceland Police announced this morning.
The driver who died was traveling alone, but two were in the other vehicle. The driver and the passenger from it were transported to Reykjavík by helicopter from the Icelandic Coast Guard.
