Gunman at large after a shooting

The police in the capital area are investigating a shooting that took place in Úlfarsárdalur valley in Reykjavík last night, but the police received a report at 4.54 am.
In a press release from the police, it says that a man was shot at a house in the neighborhood and was taken to the National Hospital for treatment.
The man’s condition is as could be expected, but his life is not in danger.

Shot found in an apartment
“The attacker left the scene and is being sought. The investigation is in its infancy and it is not entirely clear what motive was behind the attack, but it is suspected that it is connected to a conflict between two groups,” the police report states.
“It is known that several shots were fired at the scene, one of which hit the man, as mentioned above. Another shot was also found in an apartment of people, who have nothing to do with the case.”
A petition to residents and businesses
“As a result of the case, the police are asking both residents and company executives in Úlfarsárdalur and Grafarholt to check for footage in security and surveillance cameras in the area and report it to the police if they can do so. The time frame that needs to be investigated is the time between midnight last night and seven o’clock this morning, but for the sake of the investigation, information is being sought about suspicious people in the area.
The police in the capital area and the Directorate of National Police have raised their alert for the case and will continue to be, but no further information can be provided at this time.”

Grímur Grímsson, head of the police’s Central Investigation Unit, tells mbl.is that the police are concerned about public safety after the shooting in Úlfarsárdalur last night where a man was shot.
“We have not arrested the gunman, and we have increased security with law enforcement here in the city today. A wide-ranging search is ongoing to find the man and gather information to be able to trace him,” says Grímsson.
