Dorrit Moussaieff, former Icelandic First Lady, was walking up Esja Mountain yesterday with her walked on Esjan today with her dog Samson and two of their acquaintances. mbl.is caught up with Dorrit Moussaieff in Esja Mountain and asked her briefly about her position on the fin whaling break.

It was a blissful scene when a reporter spotted a cheerful Dorrit walking down to the Esja roots. Beside her were Micah Garen and Anahita Babaei, filmmakers, who are in Iceland in the process of making of a documentary about whaling.

Samson's dog was close by, but Moussaieff , who is always called Dorritt in Iceland, said Samson had no problems running up and down the mountain.

Satisfied with news of a whaling break

Asked about her stance on the whaling break, which came into effect Tuesday, Dorrit says she is pleased with the developments.

She states that she is not an expert in this area herself. In addition, she says her only concern is the effect the break may have on staff in the whaling sector.

Whales are sentimental creatures

Dorrit speculates on how to justify whaling.

“Why should we kill a creature that does no harm to anyone and serves a vital role in the environment?” says Dorrit, who says that a number of whale species are in danger of extinction.

She says it is inhuman killing whales, that are emotionally fragile animals, for two hours. If such a method is the only method that can be used to hunt whales, it should not be attempted.
