The Metropolitan Fire Brigade has demolished part of the old ship station at Hafnarfjörður harbour, which burned down yesterday and the rest will be demolished today.

The company Fura will perform that task on behalf of the insurance company, according to Lárus Steindór Björnsson, Inspector at the fire department.

The fire service is finished and there will be no response at the site today unless there is a fire. The fire department was working until three o’clock last night and believes they have extinguished all embers.

According to Björnsson, three buildings were burned down, all of them in total, and they are destroyed. The next building, where a sailing club is located, escaped completely.

The police technical unit will investigate the scene today. The source of the fire is unclear.
