All available fire trucks deployed
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade deployed all four stations to the scene of a major fire at an old ship station in Hafnarfjörður this evening. Due to shift changes, even more people will be called to the location. The call came in at about 20:30.
This is confirmed by Inspector Lárus Steindór Björnsson, of the Reykjavík Metropolitan Fire Department, told mbl.is.
He says what was inside the house is not known, but the fire department has started to extinguish the fire from the outside with hoses and a preserve of trust. It looks like the building will be totally destroyed.
Fire spreading to another building
According to a journalist from mbl.is, police cars and ambulances are in the area as well as fire trucks, but Björnsson says he hasn’t heard of any accidents involving people. Firefighting has been going well and the scene will be worked on late into the evening.
The fire that started in Drafnarslippur at Hafnarfjörður harbour has spread to an adjoining building. The old ship station is close to collapsing according to an eyewitness.
