Defence lawyer faces charges

Jóhanna Sigurjónsdóttir, defence lawyer for the two women who pressed rape charges in October, is now pressing charges against Vilhjálmur H.Vilhjálmsson who is defending one of the men accused. 

She contends that his actions are in violation of several clauses in the relvevant legislation and against his ethical rights as a lawyer. 

Speaking yesterday to mbl.is, Sigurjónsdóttir believes that public discussion of sexual crimes is difficult for victims and in this particular case, details, whether correct or incorrect, had become public. "If Fréttablaðið's reports have damaged the case, that's a lesson for the media."She says that it's very serious that the lawyer of one of the defendants made information available to media regarding sensitive details in the charges, especially as the matter is still under police investigation. She also wonders whether Vilhjálmsson's actions have damaged the case. 

Yesterday afternoon, upon hearing of this,  Vilhjálmsson demanded an apology from Sigurjónsdóttir in which case he would forgive her. However, when mbl.is contacted Sigurjónsdóttir this morning, no apology had been made and she is still pressing charges.
