Iceland’s women in perfect Euro 2017 form
Iceland’s women are going from strength to strength in their bid to qualify for the Euro 2017 football tournament, to be held in the Netherlands.
Iceland have so far won all three of their qualifying games – and have also set up a rather pleasing mathematical progression. Iceland first beat Belarus 2-0, then comprehensively overcame FYR Macedonia 4-0, and then – yesterday evening – inflicted a blistering 6-0 defeat on Slovenia.
Iceland are currently riding high at the top of Qualifying Group 1.
Both Dagný Brynjarsdóttir and Harpa Þorsteinsdóttir scored twice, once in each half. The other two goals were scored by Margrét Lára Viðarsdóttir and Sandra María Jessen.
The team now has six months to wait for their next Euro 2017 qualifying clash – against Belarus away. An 8-0 scoreline will clearly be on the wish list of every ‘blues’ supporter.
