Höfn í Hornafirði - Bus stop (N1-service station) - Public transport-HBA-Sterna
Several bus routes pass through or end in Höfn. Höfn is connected via bus to Egilsstaðir in the north and Reykjavík in the west of Iceland. Many of these routes are operated all year round. Therefore it can be said that Höfn connects the southwestern corner to eastern Iceland.
Höfn – The Eastern Fjords – Egilsstaðir
Bus companies Sterna and Hópferðabílar Akureyrar operate routes connecting Egilsstaðir and Höfn, passing through many of the eastern fjords. Route 1 goes Egilsstaðir – Höfn and its alternate is called route 1a. Route 1a goes as follows: Höfn – Djúpivogur – Berunes – Breiðdalsvík – Stöðvarfjörður – Fáskrúðsfjörður – Reyðarfjörður – Egilsstaðir. Buses from both companies stop at the N1 petrol station in Höfn. Sterna buses leave Höfn for Egilsstaðir at 8:30 a.m. and are estimated to arrive in Egilsstaðir at 12:30 p.m. Hópferðabílar Akureyrar buses leave Höfn at 4:00 p.m. and are estimated to arrive in Egilsstaðir at 8:05 p.m. The Sterna summer schedule is valdi from May 15th 2012 until September 15th 2012 and the Hópferðabílar Akureyrar summer schedule is valid from June 1st until September 15th. Höfn – Southern Iceland – Hveragerði
Sterna also operates buses on scheduled routes between Höfn and Hveragerði, Routes 12 and 12a, with stops being made for taking photographs. Buses en route 12a leave the N1 petrol station in Höfn everyday at 10:00 a.m. This schedule is valid from May 15th 2012 until September 15th 2012. Public Transport – Höfn – Reykjavík
Finally Höfn and Reykjavík are connected via public transport called Straeto, which stops at several places all along the southern shore. This route is called Route 51. One can also get from Hvolsvöllur to Reykjavík via Route 52. Final stop in Reykjavík is at Mjóddin-shopping center, and from there one can get on other buses on the capitol area bus network.
