The Iceland Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Wednesday and Thursday. Rain and strong winds are expected with snow in the north. Roads could become impassable and people are advised to follow the forecast closely.
The Reykjavik Metropolitan Police received notification last night about a group of tourists who had become stuck in Grótta in Seltjarnarnes, West Reykjavik. Grótta can be accessed by foot at low tide but at high tide it's only accessible by boat.
A majestic iceberg is now visible not far from the coast of Siglufjörður in North Iceland. The Iceland Met Office received a phonecall from a fishing trawler this morning who spotted the iceberg. Numerous icebergs have been spotted this summer, all of them having drifted here from Greenland.
An earthquake originating in the Bláfjöll mountains occurred last night at 20:17 and measured 4.2. It was felt in Reykjavik, Hafnarfjörður and Kópavogur and was followed by several smaller aftershocks.
Anthropologist Dagrún Ósk Jónsdóttir has had a close look at cannibalism in Icelandic folk tales and is opening an exhibition called Skessur sem éta karla (ogresses who eat men) at the national library at Spöngin in Grafarvogur, Reykjavik. In most Icelandic folk tales the people who eat others are women and the victims are men.
