Ólof Nordal, Icelandic Minister for Home Affairs, is in Brussels this morning attending an emergency meeting of European Union (EU) home affairs and justice ministers.

Ministers will be discussing the threat of terrorism in the wake of last weeks Paris attacked, which killed 129 and injured hundreds.

The issue of the Schengen Area – a border-free union of 22 EU countries and the four Member States of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), including Iceland – and how best to strengthen its external borders is also high on the agenda.

The ongoing refugee crisis affecting European countries, and the implications for cross-border movements and security, will also be discussed.
