“Even though Iceland is no longer an EU applicant we will build on an already strong relationship,” writes Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, Prime Minister of Iceland, following a meeting with the President of the European Commission today.

PM Gunnlaugsson met Jean-Claude Juncker today in his first meeting with European Union (EU) leaders since Iceland declared itself no longer a candidate country for EU membership back in March this year.

The leaders discussed Iceland-EU relations (including the EEA Treaty and possibilities for closer cooperation in other areas), economic matters, the Arctic, and European current affairs.

PM Gunnlaugsson will be meeting Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, tomorrow morning.
