Strong international interest in solar eclipse festival
Preparations are well underway for Iceland Eclipse 2026, a four-day international culture and music festival to be held in Hellissandur from 12–15 August next year. The programme is complete, featuring both well-known Icelandic artists and major international names. Notably, at least two concerts will take place inside lava caves.
A large number of visitors is expected to travel to Iceland for the total solar eclipse, which will be visible here for the first time since 1954. It will not be seen again in Iceland until the year 2196. While most travellers will come for the eclipse itself, many are likely to be tempted by the festival once word spreads. The same applies to locals, though fewer will be able to attend than would like: only 3,333 tickets will be sold.
Ticket prices start at ISK 103,000 for adults, and accommodation must be purchased separately.
