Benediktsson: "Members of the labor market need to play along"
Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson says that restraint in government operations and economic policy has yielded results.
"Interest rates have started to decrease and inflation has not decreased in three years. This was a priority when we renewed the government partnership this spring. Restraint in the state administration and the economic policy has yielded results," writes Benediktsson in a post he published on Facebook.
The Prime Minister refers there to the decision of the monetary policy committee of the Central Bank of Iceland, which decided this morning to lower the interest rate.
We can be optimistic that we're on the right track
He says it is necessary to continue on the right track, "reduce the state's activities and do better with every krona of the taxpayers." The members of the labor market need to play along and show in their talk and their walk that real success is at the top of their minds. If everything goes well and inflation continues to subside, we can be optimistic that much more interest rate cuts are on the way."
