The Association of Ukrainians in Iceland is organizing sending an aircraft to Ukraine with necessities and humanitarian aid for refugees, Morgunblaðið reports.

“We’ve felt a great deal of support from Icelanders, from the Polish community, the Lithuanian community and from all over, states Lyubomyra Petruk, chairperson of the board of the Association. “That is very important to us. It is important to keep in mind that this war began in February of 2014, and that the Ukrainian nation will still need help once it is over.”

She states that many homes in Ukraine are without electricity. Among the supplies being shipped is food that has a long shelf life, cod liver oil, and warm clothing.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Finland, which serves Iceland as well, facilitates the transport, and the Association has contacted businesses which will assist by donating goods or funds for the project.

For those who would like to support the effort, the bank account information for the Association of Ukrainians in Iceland is as follows: 0189-26-004211, kennitala 421112-0100.
