A fire erupted at a bar in downtown Reykjavík last night, mbl.is reports. All available fighters in Reykjavík were sent to the scene at 11 pm, when the fire was reported.

The bar, Pablo Discobar, is located on the top floor of a three-story wooden building in the heart of the city, on Ingólfstorg square.

At first, it was feared the fire would spread to nearby buildings, but thanks to a fire wall, it was possible to prevent it from spreading.

By 11:30, fire fighters tore open the roof, which was on fire.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on the scene. Police could not confirm whether he is suspected of arson.

Fire fighters completed their work by 4 am. No injuries were reported, but the building is severely damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire brought back memories of a large fire in downtown Reykjavík on April 18, 2007, when two historical buildings on Austurstræti and Lækjargata burned to ashes.
