The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases keeps rising in Iceland. There are now 180 confirmed cases of disease in the country, and three people are hospitalized, mbl.is reports. All 180 are in isolation, and 1,733 are in quarantine. As of yesterday, 1,987 samples had been analyzed.

At a press conference yesterday, it was revealed that one of the three people hospitalized is in intensive care.

According to the new website covid.is, about 28 percent of the cases are local transmissions and health officials have been unable to trace 3.2 percent of the cases. Almost 69 percent of the cases have been traced to people who recently arrived from abroad – most of them from ski areas in the Alps.

Most of the confirmed cases are concentrated in the capital area, or 165 of them. One of the infected individuals is in Northeast Iceland, nine in South Iceland, and four in Suðurnes (Reykjanes peninsula). Mbl.is reports that a police officer in Vestmannaeyjar islands is among the infected people. Eighteen people in Vestmannaeyjar are in quarantine.

The infected individuals range in age from a one-year-old to people in their 70s, but most of them are in their 40s and 50s.
