“Sports activities in [Reykjavík] City are still operating normally, but there are preventive measures that could be taken,” Steinþór Einarsson, from the city’s sports and recreation division tells Morgunblaðið. “Reykjavík City emergency management lays the groundwork regarding preparedness, and as a result, we’re prepared to close sports facilities, swimming pools and such, if the situation becomes severe.”

On the websites of Reykjavík sports associations, people are advised to follow the latest information regarding COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, and to follow instructions given by the Directorate of Health. They are reminded that defined risk areas for the virus can quickly change.

One sports club advises coaches to avoid unnecessary contact with athletes. They are furthermore asked to remind athletes to wash their hands frequently.
