A man is seriously injured after being stabbed with a knife in Akranes, West Iceland, overnight. The victim was transported to Landspítali National University Hospital, according to police, and his injuries are no longer life-threatening.

Chief Superintendent Jón S. Ólafsson states that police were contacted by Akranes Hospital and Health Center overnight, requesting assistance with a man who was behaving rowdily. Once police arrived at the hospital, though, the man had fled, after causing property damage.

Police searched for the man, but then received a phone call from another man, who claimed he was being attacked. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered, however, that the man who had called the police had stabbed his attacker, who turned out to be the one police had originally been looking for.
