An Icelandair plane which was scheduled to fly from Zavantem airport in Brussels at 1 pm local time has now been delayed.  It is not currently known whether any Icelanders were at the airport when the deadly explosions hit Brussels this morning.

The flight from Brussels was almost fully booked and most of the passengers are Icelandic. It's also the only flight from Brussels to Iceland today. According to Icelandair press officer Guðjón Arngrímsson, Icelandair is evaluating the situation before making any decisions.

"We will help passengers to get to their destination," he says. A flight scheduled from Keflavik to Brussels this morning at 7.40 am was cancelled.  Passengers had already boarded the plane when news of the bombings broke and a decision was made to cancel the flight.

The Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs has not obtained any information as to whether Icelanders were at the airport in Brussels at the time of the explosions.
