The two sisters arrested on Friday for attempting to blackmail the Icelandic Prime Minister were arrested for a second time yesterday in connection with a different blackmail allegation.

While police have declined to reveal the identity of the two individuals arrested, the front page of today’s Fréttablaðið claims that they were Malín Brand and Hlín Einarsdóttir, the pair questioned last week in connection with a blackmail letter sent to the Prime Minister of Iceland, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson.

The pair were released after questioning last night. Charges were pressed against the sisters by a second individual, who claims he was blackmailed for ISK 700,000 (approx. €4,700) for their silence over his alleged rape of one of the sisters.
