Bridge over Ölfusá river closed

Map/Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration

Due to maintenance, the bridge over Ölfusá river, by Selfoss, South Iceland, has been closed. It will reopen on August 20th. This is one of the busiest bridges in Iceland, with 17,000 cars passing every day in the summer.

A new asphalt surface will be installed, which takes several days to dry. Traffic has been redirected through Þrengsli (Road 39) and Óseyrarbrú bridge on Eyrarbakkavegur road (Road 34). Upcountry, the detours are through Biskupstungnabraut (Road 35), Skálholtsvegur (Road 31), Bræðratunguvegur (Road 359) and Skeiðavegur (Road 30).

The bridge over Ölfusá river will remain open to pedestrian traffic during the maintenance.
