A considerable amount of earthquakes occurred at Askja, a volcanic area in the north central highlands of Iceland this morning. Most of the quakes were small and measured within 2 on the Richter scale.

Geologists at the Iceland Met Office say that this is not unusual and does not point to any volcanic unrest.

An earthquake was also detected at Bárðarbunga in the Vatnajökull glacier measuring 2.2 this morning.
