Sustainable tourism specialist Louise Twining-Ward held a lecture at the Vest Norden Travel Mart conference yesterday. She says that there are plenty of unused opportunities in the Nordic countries for sustainable tourism.

The Vest Norden Travel Mart is an annual event held in collaboration with Greenland and the Faroe Islnads.

Twining-Ward spoke about the results of a new survey which shows that tourists who are interested in sustainability spend more, travel more and stay longer. An increasing number of tourists believe that sustainability matters when they choose a destination.

She said she is pleased about the latest marketing campaign by Iceland Naturally called the Iceland Academy which teaches tourists to travel around Iceland in a safe and responsible manner.

Twining-Ward is a sustainable tourism specialist with more than 20 years international experience in planning, management and monitoring of sustainable tourism destinations. Louise now leads a team of tourism professionals working in 25 destinations around the world, from the Lanzarote to Indonesia, to break down the barriers to better tourism.
