Persisent south-westerly winds in the Denmark Strait has brought pack ice to within forty miles of the Icelandic coast.

The winds have pushed the ice into sea currents which tug it towards the coast of Iceland. The above satellite picture from 1:17pm show a protuberance of the pack ice just 32 nautical miles (approx. 60 km) from the coast of Iceland West Fjords.

Pack ice expert and senior lecturer in geography at the University of Iceland Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir says the ice will like move east and closer to Iceland. Movements are being monitored by means of satellite pictures and radar images.
